Reducing Exposure to Harmful Pesticides

Growing up on a golf course is when I first learned about the correlation between pesticide exposure and your health. It was at this time that I learned that people who live in close proximity to golf courses are more likely to suffer from breast cancer than those who do not. This is said to be a direct result to the exposure from the pesticides. However, I have to admit that despite having this knowledge I never did very much to try and keep myself away from pesticides. This was a great challenge and I am happy to have learned so many tips, such as:
1. Buy organic and locally grown fruit and vegetables.
2. Wash fruits and vegetables before eating.
3. Know which fruits and vegetables have higher levels of pesticide residue.
4. Grow your own produce.
5. Use non-toxic methods for controlling insects in the home and garden.
6. Have a ‘no shoes’ policy in your home.
