To be honest, I thought that this challenge would have been a lot easier that it turned out to be. I routinely pack salads for my lunch at work in Tupperware containers so I did not think there would be much of an issue. However, when I was packing my lunch this morning and putting together the usual suspects (a bag of baby carrots, a small bag of sugar snap peas, etc.), I remembered that all of these items are packaged in individual bags which would count as waste. Therefore, I decided to make a larger salad and incorporate some of these vegetables into the salad so that I would not need to bring them on their own on the side and in their bags. Usually I may opt to purchase a canned or bottled drink but today I remembered that I needed to ensure that my drink was also waste-free and opted to drink water out of a reusable stainless bottle instead.
I learned that it is much more difficult than one would think to be truly waste-free. There are things that we do every day which unknowingly fill landfills.
I am hoping that I can continue this habit – not only for myself and my own health (my lunch is definitely healthier today) but also for the good of the environment and future generations.
Thank you for creating such a thought-provoking challenge.
