My family goes meat free more than once per week. I would say at least 3 dinners are prepared with vegetables and/or rice and beans without meat. As a protein, I will add cheese to say, chili or grilled veggies with a bit of swiss or emmenthal served open faced on a good quality roll. I have basil in my garden and make a lovely pesto sauce, everyone loves my potato pancakes, an omelet is easy, fast and healthy as an alternative and tomatoes and onions and peppers can be added for flavour and variety. There really is no need to eat meat every day, and it is not good for us. As well, every week we will eat a fish dish. So, three days of no meat, one of fish, so the remaining three days will be either chicken, turkey or pork. We rarely eat beef any more and we are trying to eat less and less pork. We never eat baby ribs, veal or lamb either. Mainly because I believe it is cruel to eat baby animals. Pigs and cows are intelligent and the news has shown how cruelly they are kept before slaughter and that has turned me off meat as well. I hope one day to be totally meat free by weaning my family off it slowly. It is not necessary to use this protein and it is much better for our planet.
