The first thing that caught me off guard with this challenge was the vast number of products that I use that do not have the ingredients clearly listed on them or only list the “active ingredients”. This is concerning to note that I pay very little attention to what I put ON my body and instead focus on what goes IN my body.
My foundation contains: PEG/PPG/POLYBUTYLENE GLYCOL-8/5/3 GLYCERINE, which according to David Suzuki “can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which may cause cancer”.
My blush and eye shadows were both purchased from a company that promotes organic and chemical free products but BOTH contain a number of different dyes including Manganese Violet (CI77742), Ultramarines (CI77007), Yellow 5 Lake (CI19140), etc. According to David Suzuki, these are considered Coal Tar Dyes and have the “potential to cause cancer and may be contaminated with heavy metals toxic to the brain”.
Based on the above, I may need to listen to my fiancé when he says I look beautiful with no make-up on. Or at the very least, will need to be A LOT more careful with what I put on my skin.
