Add an Element of Relaxation to Your Bedtime Routine

The need to sleep is irrefutable. Did you know that we spend about a third of our lives sleeping? There is no consensus among scientists on what precisely makes sleep so important, but the human body certainly sends clear signals that it needs it.

If you’ve ever had a bad night’s sleep the evening before, it’s very likely you’ll sleep more than usual the following night.

Still many of us have difficulty sleeping. According to the most recent Statistics Canada study on sleep patterns, 3.3 million Canadians suffer from insomnia. In other words, a staggering 1 in 7 Canadians has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.

Statistics Canada report that many factors can affect the quality of sleep; number of hours spent at work, stress, exercising too close to bedtime, etc. Fortunately, there are many ways to relax before going to sleep. Simple tricks like drinking herbal tea, taking a warm bath or meditating can help you catch some well-deserved Z’s.

To qualify for ekopoints, tell us what you do to relax before going to sleep or what you plan to add to your bedtime routine to help you get a good night's sleep.
