Protect Yourself From the Flu

Did you know that up to 25% of the Canadian population will become infected with the flu? Flu season typically starts at the end of October and lasts until around April.

Flu (or influenza to be precise) is a highly contagious viral infection that can occasionally lead to serious complications. More than a bad cold, flu symptoms include high fever, sore throat, weakness, headache, runny nose, muscle and joint pains and a painful cough – and in some cases – nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

The flu virus has a unique ability to change its surface structure. In other words, our immune systems might not be able to effectively fight the new version of the flu that circulates each season (known as seasonal flu).

When it’s flu season, it’s important to take the necessary steps to stay healthy, and be aware of ways you can minimize your chances of catching or spreading it. Although having the flu isn’t a full-blown heath crisis, it certainly is a burden and can take up to three weeks to recover.

To qualify for ekopoints, do a quick Internet search and find out 3 steps you can take in your daily life to help protect you from getting the flu and include your source.
