Did you know that according to numerous studies, when we spend time outdoors we are healthier, happier and smarter? There is also overwhelming evidence that time outside helps kids do better at school, improves their memory and problem solving skills, and increases their creativity.
According to the David Suzuki Foundation, on average, North American children spend as little as 30 minutes playing outside each day and more than seven hours in front of a TV, computer, video game or device.
When we are inside we tend to be more sedentary, but when we head outdoors, our activity levels tend to rise. This is particularly true with children. One British study that used GPS devices to sense movement found that kids were twice as active when they were outside.
Light is also known to improve people’s mood, particularly in the colder months. As there is more light outside than in, what better time to rug up and start a family nature habit!
To receive ekopoints, you need to take and upload a photo of your family outdoor activity. Please share with our community where you went and what you got up as a family (or couple if you don't have kids).
