Artificial colourings makes our food look more appealing, but this is just an illusion. According to many studies, they contain known carcinogenic substances. It has also been observed that they can have negative effects on children’s behaviours with links being made between colourings and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. In Canada, food manufacturers are not obliged to include the type of artificial colouring used in their foods. They are only required to include the name “colour” without having to specify the particular colour or mix of colours.
