I have volunteered in the past for the SPCA and other animal organizations. Before children, BC, I took in foster animals, such as puppies who had lost their mother’s. I did this twice and not only did I love each and every puppy but it trained me well for motherhood and getting up in the night for feedings. Except it was easier, because i only had to feed and clean one baby, not 6-8 puppies! Then I took in baby squirrels who were orphaned as well. They had to be fed by mouth every two hours. They were adorable, but as much as I wanted to bring them up and snuggle on my sofa, I was not allowed so that they could grow and still be wild in nature.
In recent years I have been a driver for cats to be taken to vets for neutering. Mostly feral cats. Even though one went beserk once and sunk it’s teeth so deep into my hand that I could not get it off, it was still a rewarding experience. I have some health issues to deal with at the moment, but when I am well again, I would like to volunteer in an animal shelter once again.
