Find Your Focus

Have you ever had a long to-do-list and wound up accomplishing one or two tasks by the end of the day? Staying focussed doesn’t come easy to everyone!

Procrastination starts when we’re at school and continues in our adult lives. A NICE Systems study found that an employee spends an average of 5 hours per week on Internet sites unrelated to work. Procrastination can also creep in our daily lives with certain mundane tasks being constantly put off: cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping…

There are many reasons why we procrastinate: the task makes us feel uncomfortable, scared, overwhelmed or stressed… In fact, experts agree that procrastinators actively look for distractions as a way of regulating their own emotions such as fear or failure.

Thankfully, many resources exist that can help us procrastinate less. There is even software (RescueTime, FocusBooster, etc.) that encourages productivity. Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and start! Once we begin, the dreaded task can feel much less overwhelming.
