Assess Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

In Canada, someone dies from heart disease or stroke every seven minutes. According to Statistics Canada, in 2008, cardiovascular disease accounted for 29% of all deaths in Canada.

Fortunately, the cardiovascular death rate in Canada has decreased by 40% in the last decade. This decline is largely due to research advances in surgical procedures, among other factors. That being said, one of the fundamental reasons for the decline has been prevention.

Awareness of associated risks is key to prevention. The good news is that several risk factors remain fully controllable (physical inactivity, smoking or being overweight etc.). Small changes in our lifestyle can have a big impact on our heart health.

As February is Heart Month, put all the odds in your favour and find out if you are at risk of cardiovascular disease. We have included a link to The Heart & Stroke Risk Assessment. You’ll be asked some simple questions about your health and lifestyle and receive customized results. You’ll also get plenty of tips and tools to help you become a healthier you!
