Apples are a part of my family fall traditions – as is pie!

Crisp fall apples are my favourite for eating, but cortlands make a great pie apple.

Apple Crumble

Topping

1/2c butter
3/4c flour
1/3c brown sugar
pinch of salt
tsp of cinnamon, ginger, (or to taste)
1/4tsp nutmeg

Mix the spices, salt, and sugar together. Cut in the butter until the look of the mixture is similar to small pebbles. Do not squish it

Mixture
4-5 apples peeled and thinly sliced
mix in some white sugar, cinnamon, and squeeze over a bit of lemon juice, 1/4tsp lemon zest

Put apple mixture in a pie shell, or without and top with crumble.

Bake at 400 for 15 minutes, then 350 for about 25/30 minutes.
